Hands-free
Page turns driven by head gestures and lip movements
The problem
Musicians need their hands on the instrument. Turning a page mid-performance means either a spare hand at exactly the wrong moment, a pedal — extra cost and clutter many players can't justify or physically use — or an unreliable nod to a human page turner.
What we built
NodMusicScore turns PDF sheet music into a hands-free score reader. ARKit face landmarks track head turns and lip movements to drive page turns, with a Vision-framework fallback when face tracking isn't the right tool. Sensitivity and debounce are tunable, so a violinist mid-shift and a cellist can dial in very different gestures.
It ships as a universal app across iPhone, iPad, Mac (Apple Silicon) and Vision Pro, and it collects no data at all — the entire computer-vision pipeline runs on the device.
Engineering notes
- On-device computer vision: ARKit face landmarks as the primary signal, a Vision-framework fallback for environments where face tracking isn't available.
- Tunable gesture model: sensitivity and debounce controls, because every instrument imposes different movement constraints.
- PDF rendering tuned for dense scores, with layouts that respect how players actually read at a stand.
- Privacy architecture with zero collection — the strongest version of on-device-only processing.
